The Cost of Knowledge →
science:
Science should be open. If you support that sentiment, this initiative is good news. It is a call for researchers to declare a boycott of Elsevier, one of the largest publishers of scientific journals in the world. Elsevier makes enormous profits off the free labor of scientists all over the world. Scientists do the research, write the papers, do the editing and peer-review, and then...

I am sensitive about animals tho
A friend recently posted this to her wall for laughs:
Australians Are ‘Technically Backward And Drink Constantly’
Sooo indignant! How dare they call me in the middle of my dinner on a Friday night without a single fuck given for my privacy and then.. AND THEN.. on TOP of that STEREOTYPE ME as an uneducated drunkard!
(How’s THAT for irony?)

sham-e says: what was the story?
Lakepeace says: it was about this guy who worked in a factory chipping rock.
Lakepeace says: one day he looked out the window and realised he didn’t want to be a rock chipper anymore. he saw the sun and wanted to have the power of the sun, so he made a wish and became the sun.
Lakepeace says: so he was the sun and he felt most powerful, until one day he looked down and saw something blocking his light. he saw it was a cloud and decided it had more power than he did, so he made a wish and became the cloud.
Lakepeace says: but then he felt something blowing him and he realised it was the wind. he thought the wind had more power than he, so he made a wish and became the wind.
Lakepeace says: and one day he looked down and noticed something he wasn’t able to move, so he went down and saw it was a rock. he figured the rock was more powerful then he, because he couldnt blow it away. so he made a wish and become the rock.
Lakepeace says: and then he heard a noise, chipping away at the layers... and he realised he had been the rock chipper all along.
sham-e says: lol
Lakepeace says: I think thats how it ended, something like that.
sham-e says: that’s marvellous.
Oh man. I only got 76.67% on this crappy online copyediting test I found. Yeah, that’s right, I missed 7 grammatical errors. I am the worst editor in the universe. Sorry Marie. SUICIDE PACT.
In other news this is my last day at this job after 9 months. We just ate cheesecake and laughed at all my foolish foibles, like how in my first month here I drank way too much wine at the staff retreat...
